Sharon Shannon donates album proceeds of “Songs for Leo” to charity of beloved Galway Girl Rosabel Monroe

Previously unreleased album ‘Songs for Leo’ proceeds gifted to Galway based charity Rosabel’s Rooms

Sharon Shannon has
announced the release of ‘Songs for Leo’, a poignant collection to mark the passing of her partner Leo Healy in 2008. The announcement follows the launch
of Sharon’s ambassadorship with the charity, Rosabel’s Rooms where all album proceeds will be donated. Rosabel’s Rooms in collaboration with The Irish Hospice Foundation, was launched on the
5th January 2018, on what would have been Rosabel’s 2nd birthday.

‘Songs for Leo’ was recorded in 2008 when Sharon’s partner Leo Healy died suddenly of a heart attack aged 46. During the weeks following, Sharon invited friends and musical colleagues into the studio to record an album of songs that were special to her. ‘Songs for Leo’ was intended as a source of comfort for herself and the Healy family and was never released commercially. Just one hundred copies were ever printed and given to friends and family.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sharon decided that the album should be heard by everyone, especially those affected by Coronavirus. Sharon has been good friends with Suzanne and Gary Monroe who founded Rosabel’s Rooms, in honour of their daughter who died tragically. The album is being presented as a gift to the charity and all future proceeds will also be donated.

Rosabel’s Rooms was established in collaboration with The Irish Hospice Foundation in memory of Rosabel Monroe, who died suddenly and unexpectedly, aged 16 months, in April 2017. The charity aims to provide direct financial and therapeutic support to bereaved parents and families around Ireland.
